Focus and Scope

Al-‘Arabiyya: Journal of Arabic Language, Literature, and Pedagogy welcomes original research manuscripts focusing on three principal domains: Arabic language studies, Arabic literature, and the pedagogy of Arabic language education.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

Arabic Linguistics and Language Studies

  • Arabic linguistics, including phonology, morphology (ṣarf), syntax (naḥw), semantics, and pragmatics.
  • Discourse analysis and applied linguistics in Arabic.
  • Computational linguistics and corpus-based studies in Arabic.
  • Development of Arabic language skills: listening (istimāʿ), speaking (kalām), reading (qirāʾah), and writing (kitābah).
  • Lexicographical studies and historical semantics in Arabic.
  • Arabic–Indonesian and Indonesian–Arabic translation studies.

Arabic Literature (Classical to Contemporary)

  • Critical analysis of classical and modern Arabic literary works.
  • Studies of classical manuscripts, Arabic philology, and textual criticism.
  • Poetry, prose, and contemporary Arabic literary expressions across different regions.
  • Arab cultural studies related to literary discourse.
  • Intertextuality, hermeneutics, and aesthetics in Arabic literature.

Pedagogy and Arabic Language Education

  • Theories and practices of Arabic language teaching and learning in formal, non-formal, and Islamic educational contexts, including pesantren.
  • Innovations in teaching methods, strategies, models, and pedagogical approaches.
  • Curriculum development and assessment of Arabic language proficiency.
  • Integration of digital technology, e-learning, and AI-based applications in Arabic language education.
  • Development of open educational resources and instructional media for Arabic learning.
  • Studies on teacher competence, professional development, and instructional management in Arabic education.

Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary articles with strong relevance to Arabic studies are also welcome for consideration.
