Authorship and Contributorship

Al-‘Arabiyya: Journal of Arabic Language, Literature, and Pedagogy adheres to the principles of transparency and best practices in scholarly publishing, following the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and other relevant organizations. This policy ensures clear attribution of contributions to published works. As an open-access journal under the CC BY-SA license, authors retain copyright while granting broad permissions for distribution and reuse.

Criteria for Authorship

To be considered an author, individuals must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research.
  • Approval of the final version of the manuscript prior to publication.
  • Accountability for the integrity and accuracy of the work.

Contributorship Statement

To ensure transparency, the journal may request a contributorship statement describing each author’s specific role in the research and manuscript preparation. This statement should accurately reflect individual contributions and may be used for editorial assessment.

Dispute Resolution

In cases of authorship disputes, the editorial board will conduct a structured investigation. Authors may be required to provide evidence of their contributions, and guidance from COPE may be sought to ensure a fair and impartial resolution. The journal is not responsible for personal disputes among authors.

Changes in Authorship

Requests for changes in authorship (addition, removal, or reordering of authors) after submission will be considered only in exceptional circumstances and must be accompanied by written consent from all authors. The editorial board will evaluate such requests carefully.

Honorary and Ghost Authorship

The journal strictly prohibits honorary (gift) authorship and ghost authorship. Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged in the acknowledgment section rather than listed as authors.

Declaration of Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, including financial or institutional affiliations that could influence the interpretation of the research.

Compliance with Ethical Guidelines

Authors are required to comply with ethical standards, including obtaining permission for copyrighted materials, securing informed consent for research involving human participants, and ensuring ethical treatment of research subjects.

Review of the Policy

This policy is subject to periodic review and revision in line with developments in scholarly publishing. Any updates will be made publicly available on the journal’s website.
